Yamaoka, Hogue, and Garn present at AASP Annual Conference

Doctoral student Yugo Yamaoka and Drs. Candace Hogue and Alex Garn recently presented on youth athletes’ perceptions of a caring climate at the annual AASP conference.

Doctoral student Yugo Yamaoka, and Drs. Candace Hogue, assistant professor and director of the Sport, Exercise, and Performance Psychology Lab (SEPPLab), and Alex Garn, professor and school director, all of the School of Kinesiology, presented their research, "Youth Athletes’ Perceptions of a Caring Climate Positively Associated with Caring Behaviors and Social-Emotional Learning in Free Community Sport Camps" at the Association for Applied Sport Psychology (AASP) Annual Conference held in Montreal, Canada. In collaboration with the Sanneh Foundation, they examined the impact of a caring climate on the social and emotional learning skills of youth athletes taking part in the Sanneh Foundation’s free sports camps. Their research highlights the impact that positive sporting climates can have on youth development, beyond the court or field.
