Graduate assistantships for MA, MS, and PhD applicants

Each January, the School of Kinesiology faculty members evaluate the pool of applicants for graduate assistant positions for the following academic year (fall-spring). Most graduate assistant positions involve teaching, but some may involve administration or research. The number of positions available in any given year varies and is limited in number.

In order to be considered for these positions, the School of Kinesiology must receive a graduate assistant application from prospective students by December 1. If you are interested in applying for the Graduate Assistantship, upload the graduate assistantship application form to the "Graduate Program Additional Material" section in your online application. Instructions can be found in the application form below.

Please note: Admission to a University of Minnesota graduate program is a prerequisite for the awarding of graduate assistantships. Current School of Kinesiology graduate students are automatically considered for assistantships every year they return.

Scholarships

The School of Kinesiology has a few internally administered scholarships and fellowships for current graduate students. These scholarship applications are typically open in the late fall of each year. View the School's scholarship webpage for more information.

College and university funding

The School of Kinesiology is within the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD). CEHD has a few fellowships and scholarships available to incoming and current graduate students. View CEHD's graduate funding page for more information.

    External funding opportunities

Students are encouraged to use their research skills to find external grant and fellowship funding from outside sources as well. One helpful resource is a list maintained by John’s Hopkins University. This comprehensive list is worth reviewing, and will hopefully provide inspiration for your external search.
