Beth Lewis, PhD, professor in the School of Kinesiology and Vice Provost for Faculty and Academic Affairs, has published an article in the Journal Mental Health and Physical Activity. The article is titled "The effect of a remote physical activity intervention on postpartum depressive symptoms and stress among low income women: The Healthy Mom III randomized trial," and was co-authored by former graduate student Tyler Dregney, PhD, and School of Kinesiology lecturer, Katie Schuver, PhD.
The study aimed to find the effects of increased physical activity on perinatal depression symptoms in low income women. They concluded that while their intervention had no effect on preventing depression and stress, physical activity remains important in the perinatal phase for other health benefits.
