School of Kinesiology faculty and graduate student participate at ISSA Conference
The School of Kinesiology had multiple representatives at the the 2025 World Congress of Sociology of Sport held in Seoul, South Korea. This event was organized by International Sociology of Sport Association (ISSA).
Eri Lee, kinesiology master's student, presented a paper titled "Challenging Dominant Epistemologies: A Critical Review of the Sociology of Sport."
Mitchell McSweeney, PhD, assistant professor in the School of Kinesiology and in the Global Institute of Responsible Sport Organizations (GIRSO), presented a paper with Michael Jonas (Instituto Fazer Acontecer) on nonprofit-government partnerships in sport for development and peace based on a research project in Bahia, Brazil. McSweeney was also a panelist on the "Sustainability Communication, Mobility Justice and Climate Action in the Sociology of Sport" panel which included the showing of the "Changing Gears" documentary.
Dunja Antunovic, PhD, associate professor in the School of Kinesiology and director of the Media Analysis Research in International Sport group, was co-author on a paper that was presented at the conference. The paper is titled "The 'rise and rise of women's sport': Cultural, organizational, external and individual factors in media narratives." The paper was presented by co-author, Toni Bruce, PhD (University of Auckland). Cheryl Cooky, PhD (Purdue University), is also a co-author.
