School of Kinesiology announces new Esports management minor
As the global Esports audience is projected to soar to 318 million by 2025, the demand for skilled Esports management professionals grows. To meet this need, the School of Kinesiology is excited to announce a new undergraduate Esports management minor, set to welcome its first cohort in Spring 2025.
This innovative minor equips students from all disciplines with a comprehensive understanding of the Esports realm, preparing them to excel in various roles within the industry. The program dives into supporting athlete performance and well-being, the intricacies of event and team management, and the pivotal role of technology in sport management. Through 15 credits of specialized and interdisciplinary coursework, students will engage in two core classes: SMGT 3141 - Contemporary Esports Management, and SMGT 3181 - Esports Performance and Healthy Gaming. These courses offer an in-depth exploration of the Esports sector, its stakeholders, and its future trajectory within the broader sports industry.
By completing this minor, students can prepare for a range of careers, from coaching and event management to roles in communications, marketing, and beyond. Additionally, the program prepares students for valuable networking opportunities with local Esports organizations like Minnesota Rokkr, T-Wolves Gaming, and Gopher Esports, giving students a competitive edge in the field. Students will be equipped with the skills, knowledge, and industry connections necessary to thrive in the evolving world of Esports.
