Rachel Hawe, PhD, assistant professor and director of the NeuroRehabilitation Across the Lifespan (NeuRAL) Lab, is a co-author on “Abnormal mu rhythm state-related cortical and corticospinal responses in chronic stroke,” the publication appearing in Clinical Neurophysiology. The paper was led by Miles Wischnewski, PhD, former postdoctoral fellow in biomedical engineering, and Zachary Haigh, doctoral candidate in biomedical engineering. The study applied precisely timed transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) synchronized to natural brain rhythms and discovered that the degree to which motor responses depended on the timing correlated with the extent of movement difficulties.
