Dengel publishes article in Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research
The article titled “Muscle-to-bone ratio in NCAA division I collegiate football players by position.”
Don Dengel, PhD, professor in the School of Kinesiology and director of the Laboratory of Integrative Human Physiology, is the lead author of an article recently published in the Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research. The article titled “Muscle-to-bone ratio in NCAA division I collegiate football players by position” examined regional and total body muscle-to-bone ratios (MBR) using dual X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) in 553 NCAA Division I Collegiate football players (CFP) and 261 age-matched, healthy controls. Although there were significant differences in body composition between CFP and controls, there were no significant differences in total MBR between CFP and controls. A number of positional differences in MBR in CFP were noted. This study may provide athletes and training staff with normative values when evaluating total and regional MBR with DXA.
Hannah Studee, a recent masters graduate, Will Juckett, and Nick Evanoff, current doctoral students in the School of Kinesiology were a co-authors on this article.
