Konczak gives seminar to Center for Neuroengineering
Konczak's seminar was titled "Vibro-tactile stimulation as a non-invasive neuromodulation therapy to treat focal dystonia."
Jürgen Konczak, PhD, professor in the School of Kinesiology and director of the Human Sensorimotor Control Lab (HSCL), gave a seminar to the University of Minnesota's Center for Neuroengineering. Konczak's seminar was titled "Vibro-tactile stimulation as a non-invasive neuromodulation therapy to treat focal dystonia." Konczak presented data on a series of clinical trials that investigated if vibro-tactile stimulation (VTS) of the neck can normalize head posture in people with cervical dystonia (CD) or reduce the voice problems of people with laryngeal dystonia (LD). He also discussed the underlying neuropathology of the disease, the electrocortical effect of VTS over the sensorimotor cortex, and a possible mechanism behind the effectiveness of VTS in treating dystonic symptoms.
