Donald R. Dengel, PhD, professor in the School of Kinesiology and director of the Laboratory of Integrative Human Physiology, is a co-author of an article published in the journal Childhood Obesity. The article is titled “Body mass index trajectories and biomarkers of cardiometabolic risk in children from low-income and racially and ethnically diverse households." The article reported that children with a high body mass index (BMI) early in childhood were more likely to maintain an accelerated BMI trajectory throughout childhood, which was associated with adverse biomarkers of cardiometabolic risk in pre-adolescence.
