Don Dengel, PhD, professor in the School of Kinesiology and director of the Laboratory of Integrative Human Physiology, is the author of a recent blog post titled “Muscle-to-Bone Ratio in College and NFL Offensive Football Players.” This blog compared the muscle-to-bone ratio (MBR) determined using dual X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) in NCAA Division I in 326 College Football offensive players to 170 National Football League (NFL) offensive players. The authors noted that there were no significant differences in total MBR or the regional measures of arms, legs, and trunk MBRs were observed. This is surprising given the difference in age between the NFL and college football players. An upcoming blog will look at the total as well regional MBRs by position defensive players from these two groups.
